I went to Wal-Mart yesterday and got 2 bags of Evolved Harvest "Throw & Gro" no-till formula Food Plot Seed. $9.95 for each 5 pound bag, and each bag is supposed to do 1/4 acre, approximately 11,000 square feet, or 25 yards by 50 yards. Hopefuly next weekend I'll get a chance to get out to my spots and get this stuff on the ground. The bag says "no till" but the directions say the more soil preperation you do the better chance you have of getting the seed to grow.

I too have such a bag. I think I'll plant it here at the house, so I can moniter it. If it comes in nicely, I have a few other spots in mind.
The deer are in my corn tough now. I will get to eat my sweet corn one way or the other.

HELLS YEAH, I just came back from Wal-Mart, I love and hate that place all the same, love that they are cheap, and hate that I can spend a freakin fortune everytime I go there ! Well, I just scored a few new things for this year for me like a brandy new Remington 6.5 gal. 6 volt deer feeder for only $39.95 ! some assembly required and no battery included but a score all the same for me ! I also scored a deal on SPECIAL and that was a 20 pound bag of Evolved Harvest Hunter Series MegaPlot for $19.95 which contains forage oats, turnips, triticale, and clover ! SWEET ! ! I cant wait for it to cool off just a hare so I can get out there within the next week or so to get this stuff in the ground.

Well as I said I was hoping for it to cool off a little and it has. Friday Sept. 3rd I took my 4 wheeler hooked the trailer to it loaded up some tools and off I went to my little 40 acre honey hole. After a few hours of labor intensive work I was ready to plant some seed. I mixed the 5lb. throw&grow with aprox. 5lb. of the mega plot seed mix and went to town with the cyclone spreader. After that I spread out some Miracle Grow shake N feed over the plot. Now all I need is some rain and it should grow. I know I used more seed than needed for the size plot but I also figure on some seed loss due to birds or squirls. I will post some pics as soon as stuff starts growin!

Oh yeah, weather outlook has a 20% chance of rain for Tues, 60% for Wed, and 50% for Thurs, so if it rains at all the food plot should start growin pretty quick. We are still havin heat in the high 90's and it doesn't realy start to cool down into the 80's and 70's till October. The bags state a 45 day maturity on the plants so, I know for sure there is no danger of frost around here till mid to late November so there's plenty of time for the plot to grow.

Just a little update on the food plot situation. Well, we did get rain, damn near 7 inches of it, and I went out Sat morning 9-11-2010 to check the food plot and to my amazement it was green green and about an inch tall already ! ! Not bad for only being in the ground for a week.
