Been away from the computer for awhile Hoyt...thought I'd share a couple shots from late in the season. Pa. spring beaver season...best day check. and a couple big boys from my first day check on spring beaver in Mid March...the weather sucked...high water and persistent Ice. But I ended up with a few for my trouble. Spent most of Mid february on chasing some water critters pretty local... And helped out all through February on a new big piece...Major dog problems and it turned out to be a really good coon piece. That ice dome we had made it tough with the denning coon and dogs that really couldnt be confined on runs due to the ice... Got my nicest red on that piece the first week of February surprisingly...they were pretty rubbed by then, but not this one. May have been the nicest red of the year. I have sent about 70 reds to the Fur Harvesters Auction in Seattle scheduled for next week. |

No...."devastating" may well come next season Port. This was my first time playing with the water beyond muskrats. Those beaver are fun....lots of work, but fun. The mink I still have a long way to go with. This coming season may be my first where I really go what I would call "hard" at the coons and canines. I've gotten good enough turning out fur that I dont think I'll be holding back at all. May be the first time where I'm really trying for numbers. |

Auctions went well Hoyt...locally I got top lot on raccoon up in Beemerville with an 18$ avg. and the fur harvester auction in seattle went ok. I got a high of 60$ on my best red, but the bottom end killed the avg. Cherry picking the best 1/3 of reds for the international auctions seems to be the way to go. Our low end stuff just takes a beating at the international level but the local buyers cant touch what was payed for the top 1/3 of furs at those auctions. The couple beaver I sent to Seattle went for 55 and 25. I'll take that for having fun any day. Headed to pa soon. I wanna set cameras for next years target cat. Man I love this shit. Talk about addicting. |
