This past week was a slow one. I mean, I saw plenty of deer but not the buck I have been looking for. I rattled in a nice six. He was real tall, and probably fifteen inches inside, but young. Definitely the kind of deer I would like to see again next year. He had my heart pounding when he first showed up, though. I had does bed under me. I took a picture, but it's not great, too dark. A little spike shook me up, when I first saw him coming. I saw a big dark body coming, and again with the heart pounding. When I finally got my binoculars on him, I was a little disappointed. Probably the coolest deer sightings last week were while riding around the farms here, with The Coyote Kid. First, I saw a mostly white doe crossing some cut corn. I stopped the truck, and snapped a picture with my camera. The deer is about three hundred yards away, and the camera still got her. I'm impressed, that's great for a camera that is no bigger than a pack of cigarettes. Later with the spotlight, we watched a buck chase a doe all over a corn field. So, I will climb back up the trees this week, and try to avoid a big bowl of tag soup. Fall bow in N.J. ends this week and the tag turns to dust, then Permit starts, and we need a new tag.
Wish me luck
