First off, I hope everyone in the northeast has made it through the hurricane ok. I got lucky and ended not losing power but I have friends who have lost everything to their name. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. So after the hurricane prep and then when it left I was itching to get out hunt because as we all know it's the start of the rut right around now. So I get home from work on Halloween and I'm headed to my room and just decided to take a look into the woods by my house with the binoculars. Well I saw 3 deer feeding bu the creek and making there way east from my house. So of course I put my gear on as fast as I can, get in the car and park it up on top of the hill in my development. I slowly walk down the edge of the woods near this funnel like area with power lines and some nice high grass. I don't have a blind or a climbing stand so I found the biggest tree I could stand behind. I checked the wind which ended up being in my favor, cleared the leaves, nocked my arrow, made sure everything was in line and and just stood like a rock waiting for these deer to come across. About 10-15 minutes after standing there I look about midway across the field and see 2 does running ramped all over the place. Into the woods, out of the woods and then back into the woods. I said to myself "they are running like they are being chased". No more than 5 seconds after that thought came a buck on a mission. Snorting and stomping like he was a barbarian. I put out some calls to him and he was just simply not having it. He was set on his woman and was nothing was stopping him. They ran off into the woods and well, I'm sure most of you know how the birds and bees go... Then across the way came those now 4 does. They came into the field and started feeding into the edges of the woods where I was standing. Now my heart rate is up and they are about 20 yards feeding on some high green bushes. I said to myself "well, I'm gonna have to shoot the first one that steps into the woods here". One broke away and started making her way into the woods. She stepped in from of a tree and I drew back my arrow. She stepped on the other side of the tree and I swore she spotted me. Looked me dead in the eye through my sight. As soon as her head dropped I released my ICS Hunter with Swhacker broadhead and hit her high double lung at 15 yards on the ground. She went about 30 yards and that was all folks! My first call was to my dad and he was pretty excited to get home and help drag her out. I also called my girl who was the one you can thank for the photo credit! I also called Port to share my excitement with my new friend.

I called this one! I told Jhamxxx that he would have one on the ground by the end of the week, I just didn't know he would take one from the ground. Way to go Bro! You're on the board. |
